The novelty of collecting funko pops does not wear off even after 6-months!

When you first pick up the hobby of hunting for funko pops at your local retailers or online, the first question that comes to your mind is ‘will collecting funko pops be worth it?’. I remember asking myself this question multiple times before genuinely getting started. I told myself that if I am going to start this hobby and put real money behind this, I need to make sure that I make it worthwhile.

However, I didn’t know how to define ‘worth it’ to me. Now six months after collecting funko pops, I’ve found the meaning of it. Let me explain…

How to start a funko pop collection without regret

Collecting is a very personal thing. Everyone is different, and everyone has a different taste. When it comes to collecting funko pops, that’s the great thing about this. Funko introduces new funko pops into the world via retailers such as Walmart, Target, Amazon, Hot Topic, and BoxLunch. Funko keeps the existing collectors happy as there’s always another pop to look forward to from another series or franchise. Did StarWars release a new pop, how about Disney? Whichever, it gets the community talking and always on the ‘hunt’ for new pops.

For a new collector or someone who is collecting for the first time, this gives you an excellent opportunity to jump into the fun and pick up some new pops. Sometimes getting started is as simple as finding a pop you like and purchasing it or putting your first funko pop on pre-order and waiting for it to arrive at your doorstep.

  1. Think about which tv series, movies or favorite characters you like
  2. Visit a retailer you trust and search for them
  3. Make your first purchase

Here’s where the fun begins; It’s not only about taking the initial steps to buy collectibles. It’s about all the little moments you have doing it. Maybe you find an expensive funko pop for really cheap or discounted because it’s a sale. Or perhaps your fellow funko pop collector on twitter helped you find the exact pop you were looking for and want! It’s all the moments you share from going to make the purchase, making the purchase, getting the purchase, and displaying the purchase that matters.

What does Collecting Funko Pops feel like?

The novelty doesn’t fade. It’s because each moment in getting that pop is different. One pop could be from Amazon, while the other pop could be from Hot Topic. One pop could be an exclusive (rare funko pop), while the other is a common (typical funko pop). Remember, there’s always more pops to purchase, so pace yourself. However, during each purchase, remember these pops have value. If you ever get tired of a funko pop, you can sell it to another collector and make your money back. If you find yourself with too many funko pops, local comic book stores buy full collections and take it off your hand.

Start a funko pop collection now; do not wait for permission

In a nutshell, it’s the feeling that is a ‘win, win.’ You aren’t stuck when you collect; you aren’t wasting money when you collect. You are having fun! And the Funko community is here to support you in building your collection.
